Im an American actress & singer-songwriter best known for my portrayal of Alex Russo on the Emmy Award winning Disney Channel Original Series Wizards of Waverly Place. I also have starred in the television movies Another Cinderella Story & Princess Protection Program. In 2010, I made my theatrical film debut as Beatrice "Beezus" Quimby in Ramona & Beezus. Before Disney, I had one of the kid roles on Barney & Friends. In 2008, I signed a record deal with Hollywood Records & contributed to the Tinker Bell, Another Cinderella Story & Wizards of Waverly Place soundtracks. My band, Selena Gomez & the Scene, released our debut studio album Kiss & Tell on September 29, 2009, which was certified Gold by RIAA on March 5, 2010. The album's single, "Naturally," was certified Platinum by RIAA on July 15, 2010. I was born in Grand Prairie, Texas to Ricardo Gomez & former stage actress Mandy Teefey. my father is Mexican American & my mother is of half Italian descent. my birth parents divorced when I was five years old, & I was raised as an only child by my working mother. In 2006, My mom remarried Brian Teefey. Im named after Tejano singer Selena. In a 2009 interview with People, I mentioned that I developed an early interest in acting from watching my mother prepare for & act in theater productions. I earned a high school diploma through homeschooling in May 2010. I began wearing a purity ring when I was 12 years old. Im a owner of five rescue dogs and describes herself as a "huge animal lover". After Lovato & I, whom I first met at the Barney & Friends auditions, posted a video blog on YouTube in March 2008, Miley Cyrus & her friend Mandy Jiroux uploaded a parody of that video, which caught the interest of entertainment media.
