The great thing about bands breaking up
is that each musical ingredient has a chance to be sampled without the
admittedly happy influence of the others. I experienced this as the
Story, an Amherst MA duo, split up about ten years back. This provided
me the opportunity to cultivate an appreciation for the solo efforts of
the underappreciated Jennifer Kimball, having been led to the group
originally by the voice of the headlining Jonatha Brooke. Kimball's
album "Veering From the Wave" helped me to hear just how vital a member
she was to that group, and I now value her work on the Story that much
more. Here in 2008, I find the same thing has happened after stumbling
quite accidentally upon this website. It was "Elemental", and thus
Roland, that brought me to laud TFF as one of the underappreciated
bands of the last fifteen years. But after a thorough tour of the
wonderful music here (but especially on Halfway, pleased), I now see
that I valued "Seeds", my first TFF foray, as much for Curt as Roland. Thank you, Curt, for giving my well-worn copy of "Elemental" not a
trusty sidekick but a work equally masterful. "Pleased" is without
question desert island material. Look forward to more from you in the
years to come!
